Historic Change: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Dr. Vera Rubin

Join us for an out-of-this-world program celebrating the release of the new Dr. Vera Rubin quarter! Part of the American Women Quarters™ Program, which celebrates the accomplishments and contributions made by women in the United States, the quarter honors Dr. Vera Rubin as an astronomer whose discoveries shed light on one of our Universe's biggest mysteries, dark matter!

Learn more about how Dr. Vera Rubin's work transformed our understanding of the universe and her legacy of championing women in science with a panel discussion. Afterward, visit the Science Center Plaza for a festival of discovery, as we highlight different organizations and groups that focus on astrophysics, women's history, and getting kids interested in STEM in Greater Boston and across America. Geared towards people of all ages, the festival will be filled with hands-on activities, including telescopes and science experiments. Grab a bite from a local food truck while you learn about more pioneering women and meet different groups that help make science more accessible to all.

Free tickets are required for the panel discussion in Sanders Theatre, as space is limited. However, everyone is welcome to visit the outdoor festival, and no registration is needed.

Program partners are the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum, the United States Mint, NASA's Chandra X-Ray Observatory and the Harvard Plate Stacks at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian.
